Josie Aslakson
Josie Aslakson is the Head Coach for the University of Arizona Women’s Wheelchair Basketball
team. A proud Arizona alumnus and two-time Paralympic medalist, Coach Aslakson began her
coaching career at Arizona in the 2021–22 season. She brings elite international experience
and a deep commitment to collegiate player development to the Wildcat family.
Coach Aslakson achieved her lifelong dream in 2017 by securing a spot on the USA Women’s
National Wheelchair Basketball Team. In 2019, Aslakson relocated to Tucson to train for the
Tokyo Paralympics while finishing her higher education. At the University of Arizona, she joined
the newly formed collegiate Women’s Wildcats. As the only player on the roster with
international experience, she quickly stepped into a leadership role, serving as team captain
during the 2019–20 season. Following her graduation and her podium finish in Tokyo, Aslakson
transitioned from athlete to Head Coach of her alma mater in 2021.
Coach Aslakson leads a highly competitive, world-class program built on resilience and grit.
Having pioneered championship culture as a collegiate athlete, she is dedicated to leveraging
her dual Arizona and Team USA experience to recruit, mentor, and cultivate the next generation
of wheelchair basketball champions in Tucson.
